Career Highlights: It is hard to pinpoint a highpoint in Mickelson’s stellar career as there has been so many. Before he turned professional, he became the first Amateur in five years to win a professional tournament and of course, his first Major win was probably very sweet. However for a highlight, we are going to pick his 2010 Masters victory. Not just because he achieved it playing one of the greatest golf shots ever seen, but also that it came at such an emotional and important time for his private life as shall be explained below.
Career Lowpoints: Mickelson has not only suffered great highs in his career. An undeniable low point came when his wife, Amy battled back from cancer. The heartache and worry that caused him and his young family when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Incredibly, 11 months after her diagnosis, she was waiting for him on the 18th green at Augusta after he clinched an emotional third Masters triumph.
What does the future hold for Phil Mickelson?
Mickelson’s form had tailed off a little towards the end of the 2012 season and he has fallen outside of the world’s top 10, into 19th in the world rankings. However, don’t write Lefty off just yet. There were still flashes of brilliance aplenty in the 2012 season that promise 2013 could well be another successful year for the American superstar.
Regardless of his success on the course, off it Mickelson remains a true American sporting hero, a genuinely nice man and someone who embodies the courteous, friendly and spectacular nature of the game of golf.
