Overview of the Biggest Golf Championships in 2011 Part 1

2011 is set to be a great year for golf. Avid golf fans will have plenty of golfing action to savor as the year presents many championships and tournaments.

The major championships this year include the men’s, women’s and seniors’ championships, a total of 13 tournaments. Tiger Woods is expected to re-emerge from his personal problems and win a championship. On the whole, it looks like a very tempting feast for golf aficionados.

Here is a first 6 month overview of the biggest upcoming golf championships on the PGA and LPGA tours in 2011 and what you can expect from them.

Kraft Nabisco Championship

The championships will be kicked off by the women’s majors, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. It will be held from 31st of March to the 3rd of April. Over a hundred of the best women golfers in the world will compete, with 2010 champion Yani Tseng and Michelle Wie expected to be the frontrunners. The Kraft Nabisco Championship will be held in the Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs, California.

Masters Tournament

The Masters Tournament is, of course, one of the men’s four major championships. The Masters Tournament 2011 will commence from April 7th in Georgia at the Augusta National Golf Club. All the leading men’s golfers are competing in the event with Tiger Woods and last year’s winner Phil Mickelson top contenders this year. The prize money has yet to be announced.

Regions Tradition

The Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City will play host to the Regions Tradition. The Regions Tradition is part of the champions tour which includes golfers who are over the age of 50 years. The championship will be held from 2 to 8 May 2011.

Senior PGA Championship

The Senior PGA Championship is the most prestigious tournament in the Champions tour and will be held from May 24 to 29 at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Fred Couples, Kenny Perry and Tom Watson are among the favorites to win the Alfred S. Bourne Trophy. There are 156 golfers eligible for the Senior PGA Championship 2011.

U.S. Open

The U.S. Open will take place at the Congressional Country Club from the 13th to 19th June 2011. Over 150 golfers will take part in the U.S. Open with the usual suspects Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson expected to take home the championship.

LPGA Championship

The women’s major LPGA Championship will be held at the Locust Country Club from 23 to 26 June with a prize purse of $2.5 million up for grabs. The best women’s golfers from all over the world will take part in the LPGA Championship.

U.S. Women’s Open

The U.S. Women’s Open will commence on Independence Day and will end on the 10th of July. The Broadmoor East Course will play host to the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open with 156 golfers taking part in the tournament. Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr are the pre-tournament favorites.

Don’t worry, this is not all, as the second half of the year will also bring along several majors.
