The eyes of British golf were focused on the Middle East last weekend. Fans proudly watched last as two of the nation’s most determined players battled it out for the Abu Dhabi Championship title on Sunday evening.  And “all bets were on”,  reports the leading website, bet365 online betting

England’s Justin Rose led the pack by two heading into the final day in the Emirates, having carded a strong four-under-par 68 which kept him ahead of main challenger Jamie Donaldson. Yet Donaldson proved his mettle on that day: smashing the two-stroke lead to finish 14 under for the tournament and one stroke ahead of Rose to claim his second European Tour title.

Rose’s day began to collapse when he missed a six-foot par effort on the fifth before dropping a shot at the 16th when he found trees instead of the fairway. His dismay was complete when he missed a 10-foot birdie on the 17th. Hopefully, the talented Rose wil prevail over this early-season form and despite the surrender of a two-shot lead.

Welshman Donaldson is justifiably delighted as he played a magnificent final day to beat his rival with five birdies on a searing afternoon. The 37-year-old has found a new lease of life since winning his first ever European Tour title at the Irish Open last season and appeared calm and collected as he made some difficult approach shots look easy.

The clutch victory will stay in the memories of fans who follow the close coverage of the golf betting news for many months. Does Abu Dhabi offer a precursor for the first major of the year – the Masters in April – where both players will compete for one of golf’s most coveted trophies?

Don’t forget about Rory McIlroy,  “as long as I feel like my game is in good shape heading into Augusta (the US Masters on 11th-14th April) that’s all I’m worried about,” quotes the website. All bets are on!

With the Masters just three months away January is the perfect time to rack up ranking points and find good form. While the likes of McIlroy fell by the wayside in Abu Dhabi, both Donaldson and Rose can take great spirit from their efforts and continue into the spring with genuine hopes for success at Augusta.
