Golfer Tom Lewis and his Ping Golf Equipment

Few golfers have made as much of an impression over their first three rounds as a professional as young British player Tom Lewis. After leading this year’s British Open alongside Thomas Bjorn after the first round, his talent was duly noted on the world stage. Two months later, Lewis was one of the stars of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team and it was expected that the player, who was ranked as the 7th best Amateur in the world at the start of the tournament, would turn professional after the event.

That proved to be the case and Lewis made his debut as a professional at the Austrian Open later that month, recovering well from an opening round 74, to finish tied for tenth in his first European Tour tournament.

The Golfer and His Bag: Bryce Molder Uses Titleist Equipment

Bryce Molder’s nerve-jangling victory at the FRYS.com Open on 9 October was his first on the tour. In a day when big names like Ernie Els and Paul Casey struggled to match his stunning final round 64 and Tiger Woods was seemingly pestered by a man flinging hot dogs (!), Molder triumphed when he defeated Briny Baird on the sixth play-off hole, sinking a 6-foot birdie putt after a dramatic marathon play off.

Molder is a Titleist staff player and outlined below are the clubs he used to record superb final rounds of 65 and 64, to win the FRYS.com championship.

Lexi Thompson and her Cobra Golf Equipment

Just a few weeks ago, Lexi Thompson, 16, pocketed a winning cheque of £124,000 after a final round 70 saw her clinch the LPGA Navistar Classic in Prattville, Alabama, setting a new benchmark as the youngest ever winner on the LPGA tour.

Thompson’s star has been in the ascendency for some time. Last year, as a 15-year-old, she finished an astonishing fourth in the U.S.Women’s Open at Oakmont and a few years back played in the tournament as a 12-year-old.

While current LPGA rules state that only golfers over the age of 18 are allowed to play on the tour full time, Commissioner Mike Whan is expected to announce shortly that Thompson, who petitioned the LPGA for acceptance onto the tour next season following her win, will waive the age restriction in her case.

Lee Westwood and his Ping Golf Bag Equipment

If you are a believer that to become the best player in the world, you need to have swung a golf club since the day you started to  walk, then Lee Westwood is evidence that this is not the case.

But Lee Westwood never owned his own set of clubs until he reached the age of 13 when his grandparents bought him his own half set. Not that Lee was slow to develop his skills with his new gift, becoming junior champion of his home county Nottinghamshire less than two years later.

Keegan Bradley and his Cleveland Golf Equipment

It is fair to say that prior to the 2011 season, few people in professional golf had heard of Keegan Bradley.

But as the winner of two events in his first season as a PGA pro, including the recent major win at the USPGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club, that has most certainly changed.

The native of Woodstock, Vermont was born on June 7 1986 and turned professional in 2008 after graduating from St John’s University. He began his competitive career on the NGA Hooters Tour, winning in his fifth and final event of the year before winning a second event in 2009 at the Texas Honing Open. He attempted to earn his PGA Tour card for 2010 but failed to do so by two shots, however a year later a consistent season on the Nationwide tour saw him finish 14th in the money list and earn his PGA card for 2011.

Thomas Björn and his Callaway Golf Equipment 2011

The renaissance of Thomas Björn continues apace after an outstanding final round of 62 saw him clinch the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre by four strokes from former world number one Martin Kaymer. This outstanding victory came just a week after Björn recorded his second victory of the season at Gleneagles in the Johnny Walker Championship.

His two victories in the past two weeks have not only seen him race up the money chart, but victory at the European Masters saw Björn earn vital Ryder Cup points. This is key for the Dane as he hopes to qualify for the European team once again as a player, rather than as an assistant to the captain, a role Björn has fulfilled capably twice in the past.

In addition, his victory at Gleneagles saw Björn become the first player aged over 40 to win on the European tour in over 14 years.

Rory McIlroy and his Titleist Golf Equipment 2012

Read our Rory McIlroy World no. 1 Golfer article!

Ever since the 22-year-old Northern Irishman had the golfing world shaking their head after his final day meltdown at Augusta in April 2011, Rory McIlroy has been difficult to keep out of the spotlight. Barely two months after his collapse at the Masters, the young Irishman put together four of the greatest rounds of US Open golf in history, to win the tournament at 16-under-par, eight shots clear of the nearest contender. Since then, the Irishman has continued his inexorable climb up the rankings, his 2nd place at the 2012 Accenture World Matchplay, taking him into 2nd place.

While promises of more major success in 2011 to come proved hollow, with close friend Darren Clarke winning the British Open and McIlroy injuring his hand (and ruining his 7-iron) when hitting a tree root during the opening round of the USPGA Championship, the Irishman is now regarded as a potential world number one. Last season, McIlroy moved steadily up to fifth in the rankings, just behind English duo of Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, American Steve Stricker and German Martin Kaymer during the mid part of 2011 and towards the end of the season and into early 2012, he rose to 3rd and then subsequently 2nd this week after his impressive second place finish at the Accenture World Matchplay.
