GGB editor, Tommy Priest is now baring his golfing soul….
I felt that the only way I could make significant progress with my game was by posting his scorecards and progress (or regression).
Objective over the next 12 months:
HCP: 12 (currently 15.7) and to Break 80.
Your suggestions and support is welcome!

September 9, 2011
Holes: 9
Conditions:
Excellent weather. Playing partner, Alan said it was the best round he’s seen me play in years…That is a high compliment – believe me.
Self-tip: Score..score…score. Either get on in regulation or make sure to be in range to one putt.
Results: Again 42 for 9 holes with 17 putts. Got to put 18 together…

September 3, 2011
Holes: 18
Conditions:
Greens still a little difficult but it is no excuse for a good first nine and a disastrous back nine…Weather perfect.
Self-tip: Drives and fairway shot good. Sand inconsistent. Putting back nine bad. Practice…practice…practice. On putting be sure to keep the magic triangle rock solid and never look up…
Results: 44/51 (very bad…) with putts 18/21 (ugh- and a total of 11 puts on the par 3s).

August 29, 2011
Holes: 9
Conditions:
Played Montreux this morning with Pierre Massard. Pierre is in training for the 2016 Olympics as a para-golfer.
Greens and course in very playable – excellent condition. After the first hole, I played pretty well as the score indicates. What is good is that I feel I can do even better. Admittedly, it was only 9 holes, but it all counts! Happily, Pierre is great at finding errant balls. Had two which could have ended in disaster had they not been found.
Self-tip: Slow down the swing.. Focus on the finish.
Results: 42 for 9 holes with 17 putts. Now if I could do that in Lausanne In and Out for 18 holes! Two competitions coming up this week – we’ll see what happens…

August 28, 2011
Holes: 18
Conditions:
Greens very unpredictable, One partner had a good idea – why not aerate half the green, put it under repair for two weeks and then aerate the other half. That way at least a significant part of the green is left playable.
Weather was perfect. Ever have one of those days where you feel you’re hitting the ball well but scoring badly. This was one of those days for me. Too many puts 39 again) and I had just too amny bad holes and no particularly good one to compensate enough.
Self-tip: Putting practice…! Drives dramatically improved.
Results: 96 second day in a row (very, very bad…) with 39 putts (also very, very bad…). Results much worse than yesterday. Planning to play 9 tomorrow at a neighboring course. I have a feeling things are getting better, even though the score was still bad today.

August 27, 2011
Holes: 18
Conditions:
Greens still unreliable due to geen aeration (this is an important treatment to keep them naturally healthy) still making putting especially difficult. Weather has turned quite cold and it drizzled at times too.
Self-tip: Practice sand trap! Also, drives were shorter today than yesterday.
Results: 96 (very bad…) with 39 putts (also very bad…). Results much worse than yesterday. Planning to play 18 again tomorrow – let’s see what happens.

August 26, 2011
Holes: 18
Conditions:
Greens have been sanded and aerated making putting especially difficult. Started at 07:30 so dew also made the greens very slow and unpredictable on the front nine.
Self-tip: I felt that by looking just ahead of the ball when I hit, it improved my accuracy and distance. We’ll see if that lasts…
Results: 88 with 36 putts. I thought my putting would be much worse than the results show).
