The Worst Golf Gifts That We Could Find

Golfers have no shortage of things to spend their money on, from the tongue in cheek to the overpriced, gadgets abound from Ebay to the local pro shop. While a number of these may help you take a stroke or two off your round a number are nothing short of pure dross. Flotsam and Jetsam that empty your wallet and make you look as silly as those yellow plaid pants that shouldn’t even be worn on a golf course. There are so many out there that this list will certainly seem a touch incomplete but here goes in no particular order…..

Just for Smiles Foundation

Gorilla Golf Blog is pleased to announce that we have selected the Just for Smiles Foundation as our partner organization for all charitable fundraising.

Just for Smiles was founded in 2004, enabling severely handicapped children, adolescents, and young adults to safely take part in outdoor activities: sailing, tandem ski, hiking and in 2011 – golf. JFS assures that reduced mobility is not a hindrance to safety and enjoyment.

We at Gorilla Golf Blog believe that golf is a perfect addition to their overall program, because it encourages excellent hand-eye coordination and neural path communication. At the same time, it provides a feeling of well being due to the idyllic settings and a great sense of accomplishment. Stay tuned for monthly updates about Just for Smiles Foundation activities and posts on how golf can benefit the disabled.

Julien Clément Just for Smiles Golf Ambassador

We are also pleased to announce that No1 ranked Swiss golfer Julien Clément was named by Just For Smiles as their “Golf Ambassador” for this newly developed golf activity. Clément became a “scratch” (handicap 0) player when he was 15 years old. In 2000 he became the Swiss Junior Champion, in 2001 the Swiss Romande Champion and finished 2nd at the European Boys Team Championship.  In 2005 he participated to the Challenge Tour and succeeded, finishing in 69th place. Julien is currently ranked as the Number 1 player in Switzerland and represents his country in many international tournaments.

Here are the photos from the event organized by Rotary Club of Yverdon, the seed money donation was presented to the Just for Smiles Foundation. Julien Clément was present and named as JFS “Golf Ambassador”.

Westwood, Woods and Kaymer together at 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic

Is this the tournament where Tiger Woods makes his comeback? It has been 15 months since he hoisted the Australian Masters trophy in November, 2009. It certainly is a promising start as he partnered up with his close friend Mark O’Meara (2004 winner) and won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Challenge Match on Tuesday.

The Real Stars of the AT&T Pebble Beach National 2011

The AT&T National at Pebble Beach is as much charity and pageantry as it is a tournament in a true sense. With a purse of over six million dollars and the winner receiving well over a million dollars it is difficult to ignore.

In 2011 you will see the same breathtaking courses played as last year. This includes a round at each: Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club before the final round is played once again at Pebble Beach. That should really read weather permitting as nearly half of the U.S. based tournaments this year have finished with less than 72 holes played and at the writing of this piece half of Texas is under snow. Clearly anything goes, and that often extends to the Celebrity amateurs who take part in the tournament.

Video Games Can Improve Your Golf Swing

Even if you have never swung a golf club before, playing it with a motion sensor control allows you to see the accuracy with which you are hitting the ball, even though it is only in the virtual game. But you can get the basic idea about golf, develop a liking for the sport and if you’re already a golfer, develop better skills.
