Golf Trivial Drivel

For whatever reason, it seems that golf takes a back seat to other sports when it comes to trivia. We never quite understood that. Some of our favorite sports trivia indeed comes from the honorable game of golf.

Even if a few of these questions are less than honorable, have a look and see how you fare.

Q: Where is the most dangerous place to play golf?

A: The Ocean Creek Golf Course in Beaufort, SC, where a 77-year old golfer had part of his arm bitten off by a 10-foot alligator.

The GolfChannel.com borrowed this one from the Associated Press. It happened in October of 2009. Fortunately for the golfer, his partners were able to rescue him from the gator, and the arm was also retrieved in the hopes that it could be reattached. We haven’t heard how the guy ultimately made out, but the gator was not so fortunate. It was killed at the scene.

Sex on the Golf Course - Updates

I’m sure that some of our avid readers remember the controversial posting about Lana Lawless and LPGA that we published in October. Ms. Lawless was planning to sue the LPGA because she was not allowed to compete due to the fact that she is not a woman by birth. LPGA stated that transgender golfers have an advantage over others because of their strength, endurance and muscle tone. To counter, Ms. Lawless filed a lawsuit against the LPGA on October 12th, 2010.

This story has now taken another turn. A few days ago, Randall Mell reported that the LPGA is preparing to change its “female by birth” requirement to grant membership to transgender golfers. Although such action is a direct response to the lawsuit, Ms. Lawless will continue to pursue damages for interference with her ability to earn a living as a professional golfer.

We’ll keep you updated on this intriguing case!

Sometimes you can finish a round more stressed than you began if you let little annoyances get to you. In fact, it can add strokes to your score. Golf is a sport where the phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff” is a prerequisite to an enjoyable day on the links.
